Andrea and Andrew | Real Wedding Story

Welcome to Andrea and Andrew’s Real Wedding Story held at The  Society Room in Hartford, Connecticut.  They describe their wedding day firsthand from our interview.

When was your wedding?  6/30/2013

What made you choose your wedding date? Andrew and I wanted a summer wedding. We also wanted to get married in a rose garden in Connecticut-roses are in full bloom at the end of June. We were lucky that the reception venue had an available date at this time.

Wedding Dress by Justin Alexander from La Reine Bridal in Waltham, MA.  Brides shoes- Nine West (I wanted wedges for the garden ceremony and I really wanted them to be my “something blue”). Groom’s suit-Wilke Rodriguez from Men’s Warehouse. Bridesmaid dresses were from Nordstrom.  Groomsmens suits were the same as the Groom’s.  My bracelet was my grandmothers.

Who did your hair and makeup? Larissa Lake

Besides the “getting married ” part, what was the most vivid memory of the day? (Groom’s perspective) The first look. Seeing my wife for the first time.

What part of the day do you want to do again and why? I would love to say my vows to Andrew again. We had nontraditional (and somewhat lengthy) vows but the meaning behind those words was so personal and meaningful. I could say them to Andrew every day, and listen to him say them to me every day and never get tired of it.

What was the weather like, and was it what you hoped for? How did it impact your day? The weather was unfortunately extremely, oppressively humid. Thunderstorms were also predicted. Andrew and I made a last minute decision, the morning of the wedding, to move the ceremony indoors so our guests would be comfortable. We decided to still take photos in the garden, as this atmosphere was important to us, and it turned out to be the best decision we made. We did a “first look” which we hadn’t initially planned on doing and I’m so happy we did. I was so emotional walking up to Andrew, I can’t imagine how it would have been if the first time I was seeing him was at the ceremony, with my dad next to me, and all our guests looking at us. Our time in the garden was a truly special and intimate moment for both of us. The skies opened up during our ceremony, but thankfully, we were all indoors.

What do you remember most about the Ceremony? I remember seeing only Andrew. Even though we had about 120 people in front of us, he was the only one I was focusing on. I loved our vows and I still get choked up and emotional when I think of them now.

Who was the officiant? Rev Margret Hofmeister

Where was the reception held?  At The  Society Room of Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut.

What was the total guest count? Why did you pick the number of guests you did? Was it hard to get to that number? There were about 120 guests at our wedding. It was the perfect size! We were able to spend time with most everyone individually and not feel rushed through our thank yous.

Where did you have your Ceremony? Our ceremony was initially planned for the Rose Garden at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford, Connecticut. Due to the unpredictable weather and extreme humidity, we moved it indoors to The Society Room of Hartford, which was were we had our reception.

What regrets, (if any) do you have about the planning of your wedding and your decisions leading up to the day? I can honestly say I have no regrets about our wedding. I wish we had a little more time to plan it (we did it in 6 months) but I’m sure if I did have more time I’d be wishing that I didn’t have all that time to focus on the little details.

What was the most memorable part of your photography experience with Studio1923? (From engagement all the way till now) Jerome and Jen were amazing! Neither Andrew nor I are completely comfortable in from of a camera-we’re pretty shy when it comes to things like this. But they had a way of making us feel totally comfortable with the entire process. We live in Boston and Jerome made the drive up here for our engagement shoot-we love our engagement photos as they are a glimpse of how we live our lives here in the city. During our first-look shoot, Jen made sure that it was just Andrew and I in that moment (since we were in a public park!) and for that I am so grateful. It was such an intimate experience.

Besides the “getting married” part, what was the most vivid memory of your wedding day? (Bride’s perspective) Having all my friends and family, all the people that I love, in one place to celebrate-it made me so happy. I’ve said many times since June 30th that I wish we could have our wedding every weekend!

What made your reception personalized to your own unique vision and expectations? Andrew and I are big foodies- a delicious meal was at the top of our priority list when planning our wedding. The Society Room did an exceptional job with not only the menu but the attention to detail that was provided to all aspects of the event was impressive.

What ended up being your favorite photo? This is a tough one-I have so many! I love the black and white birds’ eye view of us in the garden. I also love the jump shot in front of the reception venue. (We do jump shots every trip/ event we go on). The most stunning one is the nighttime street corner shot-it doesn’t even look real! But the picture that might elicit the most emotion from me is the one of my sister and my dad. My youngest sister is chronically ill with a life-threatening disease. The emotion that was captured in my Dad’s eyes, the love that shines through his expression and the way that my sister is leaning into him–their raw emotion make me tear up every time I look at it.

Any advice to offer new brides and grooms to-be? Don’t sweat the small stuff! No one remembers the small stuff! I feel like in this world of Pinterest and DIY (which I myself also do enjoy) we can get wrapped up in planning everything down to the T. But as long as you and your groom are dressed and ready, everything else falls into place.

Who was the entertainment? Mike Tierney from Audio Media Solutions in East Hartford. LOVED him! He also did the lighting.

Where did you get your rings? Marquis Jewelers in Newton, MA

Where did you take your honeymoon? And how did you like it? We went to Hawaii for 2 weeks! We got married on a Sunday and left on Tuesday. We rented a condo on a beach in Maui and stayed in a resort in Kauai. We loved every second of it and could have stayed for another 2 weeks!
