Welcome to Carrie and Justin’s Real Wedding Story held at Woodwinds in Branford, Connecticut. They describe their wedding day firsthand from our interview.
When was your wedding? 06/30/2012
What made you choose your wedding date? Both of our birthdays are in June so we decided we could celebrate everything together. Just like everyone else, we wanted a summer wedding.
Where did you get your rings? Pennachio Jewelers – Glastonbury, Connecticut.
What was the weather like, and was it what you hoped for? How did it impact your day? It was a hot 90 degree day in June, but had cooled down to be the perfect temperature for our evening wedding.
Who did your hair? Tonya from Naomi’s Salon
Who did your makeup? Candice from Naomi’s Salon
Who was the florist? Jane – Just for You
What was the total guest count? Why did you pick the number of guests you did? Was it hard to get to that number? We had about 200 people attend our wedding. Our guest count started out at almost 250, but our goal was to have no more than 200 people.
Dress – Casablanca from Mariella Creations
Brides and Bridesmaids shoes – Style and Company
Bridesmaids dresses – Bill Levkoff
Flower girl dresses – Zulily.com
Each groomsman wore his own black suit, we provided the ties (Tommy Hilfiger)
Groom’s tux was – Men’s Warehouse
Where did you have your ceremony? Our wedding was in front of the waterfall at Woodwinds in Branford.
What was the most memorable part of your photography experience with Studio1923? (From engagement all the way till now). Jerome is always on point. A specific example was during cocktail hour when we were doing family pictures and Jerome caught my 3 year old flower girl out of the corner of his eye being silly and he turned quick and snapped a few pictures of her. He takes such creative pictures which is why we knew we wanted to book him from the beginning.
What do you remember most about the ceremony? There was a mishap with the microphone. It didn’t always amplify the JP’s voice so he ended up not using it to perform the ceremony.
Who was the officiant? Alejandro Rodriguez
Where was the reception held? The reception was held in the Garden Room at Woodwinds.
What ended up being your favorite photo? Just one? They are all amazing! One of our favorites is when we were walking toward the entrance to Woodwinds during cocktail hour. We are holding hands and Carrie is peeking behind Justin’s back. She couldn’t have been happier.
Any advice to offer new brides and grooms to-be? Book your vendors early. We had an 18-month engagement and booked our venue within 2 weeks and Studio1923 within a month (we were basing our date depending on their availability). We had our DJ booked within 3 months and our florist, hair stylist and makeup artist within the first 6 months. We were able to book our top choices at 2011 prices even though our wedding wasn’t until 2012.
Besides the “getting married” part, what was the most vivid memory of your wedding day? (Bride’s perspective) The most memorable part of our wedding day was when Justin’s cousin gave the toast before dinner. She wasn’t part of the bridal party, but she is responsible for getting us together. She told stories of her and Justin growing up, the college years with Carrie, how she and her husband spied on us as we left their apartment the night we met, and how she was thrilled that we asked her to give our champagne toast. She gave the perfect toast encompassing memories with the bride and groom.
What part of the day do you want to do again and why? Justin wants to do dinner again. The food was outstanding! The cake was also delicious (vanilla cake with Oreo filling and buttercream frosting from JCakes)
Who was the entertainment? DJae Melee. He had everybody on the dance floor the entire night!
Besides the “getting married ” part, what was the most vivid memory of the day? (Groom’s perspective) Aside from watching Carrie walk down the aisle, it would have to be the mother/son dance. Justin had to sing Simple Man to her to prevent her from crying.
What was the funniest thing that your remember happening? During the reception Carrie’s dad fell to the floor and started flailing his arms and legs. Jerome was right there to capture photos with every arm or leg movement. We were laughing as Jerome showed us the sequence of pictures on the camera.
What made your reception personalized to your own unique vision and expectations? Carrie’s father started a tradition of taking off his shoe and drinking out of it. Over the years this tradition has turned into a friends and family tradition. Many people are disgusted at first but it catches on and they are doing it by the end of the night. It’s unique but it’s something we all look forward to.
What regrets, (if any) do you have about the planning of your wedding and your decisions leading up to the day? We don’t have any regrets! Our planning and wedding went smoothly and we wouldn’t change a thing.
