Welcome to Hattie and Geoffrey’s Real Wedding Story held at The New Haven Lawn Club in New Haven, Connecticut. They describe their wedding day firsthand from our interview.
When was your wedding? 10/6/2012
What made you choose your wedding date? We love the Fall.
What was the weather like, and was it what you hoped for? How did it impact your day? It did rain a little bit, which made me a little nervous but it cleared up by the time we even left for our ceremony. It was a sunny and cool day. A perfect fall day.
Who was your florist? Marcy Green from Dragonfly Events
Wedding Dress is Jim Hjelm from Mariella Creations in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. Bride’s shoes, Badgley Mischka and the veil was from David’s Bridal. Jewelry and hair piece from etsy.com
Groom’s tux was owned previous to the wedding and we had it custom designed with the ivory trim by Bustles & Beaus in Hamden, Connecticut.
Who did your hair and makeup? Naomi from Naomi’s Studio and Salon
What was the total guest count? Why did you pick the number of guests you did? Was it hard to get to that number? 140. It was hard in the beginning but 140 was just the right amount. Everyone we knew and loved was there and that is what mattered to us most.
What was the most memorable part of your photography experience with Studio1923? (From engagement all the way till now) You both made us feel comfortable from our very first meeting. I probably emailed a thousand times but Jen was so great about it. We never spent, what could feel like HOURS taking pictures during our wedding. You let us enjoy our day and you were so great with my nephews!!
What ended up being your favorite photo? We have to choose just one??? !
Where did you have your ceremony and reception? New Haven Lawn Club in New Haven, Connecticut.
What do you remember most about the Ceremony? My veil getting caught on the door as I started walking down the aisle! But also getting choked up during the vows. I had stayed pretty calm all day, which surprised me, I thought I was gonna cry the whole day…ha! Especially since I cried the whole day for my sister’s wedding, so I thought for sure I was gonna be a mess, but I held it together.
Besides the “getting married” part, what was the most vivid memory of your wedding day? (Bride’s perspective) I would say just walking down the aisle knowing this was all finally happening and I am pretty lucky be marrying my best friend.
Who was your Officiant? Marcy Naylor
Who was your videographer? Chris Walsh from Chris Walsh Productions
What made your reception personalized to your own unique vision and expectations? We wanted the style to be Old Hollywood Glam. Especially since that is how it felt when we were in New Haven Lawn Club. Having the colors be black and white with pops of cobalt blue, really made it everything I had hoped. Having a picture of the my (Brides) Grandparents was also very important. They were a big part of my life and having that picture, meant they were still there. We also had golf tee escort cards to incorporate how we met and of course beer bottle favors.
Who was your coordinator or designer, (if any)? Sixpence For Your Shoe
Who was your entertainment? Rob Waldron from Elegant Occasions DJ
What regrets, (if any) do you have about the planning of your wedding and your decisions leading up to the day? We don’t have too many regrets.
What was the funniest thing that your remember happening? Cutting our cake! We played the song ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ by The Dan Band. It wasn’t exactly the cleanest song for cake cutting but it fit who we are, a little goofy and love a good laugh minus some swearing. We knew as we started walking to the cake what was going to happen and we just couldn’t stop laughing. Seeing the shock and laughter from our guests was priceless!
Besides the “getting married ” part, what was the most vivid memory of the day? (Groom’s perspective) Taking the time to stand back and watch our closest friends and family having a great time celebrating our big day. Making sure they enjoyed it as much as we did.
What part of the day do you want to do again and why? Can I say the whole day? =) If not, walking down the aisle and our first dance.
Where did you get your rings? Bride’s Rings were from Rumanoff’s
Any advice to offer new brides and grooms to-be? Don’t sweat the small stuff. Just enjoy the whole day from beginning to end because it goes by in the blink of an eye.
