Kellie and Mike | Real Wedding Story

Welcome to Kellie and Mike’s Real Wedding Story held at Saint Clements Castle in Portland, Connecticut.  They describe their wedding day firsthand from our interview.

When was your wedding? 7/6/2013

What made you choose your wedding date? We knew we wanted a summer wedding. We both love the summer for the sunny days and warm weather.

What was the weather like, and was it what you hoped for? How did it impact your day? We were hoping for any weather that did not include rain because our ceremony was going to take place outside. The weather ended up being sunny and 95 degrees. It was sweltering out and was one of the first heat waves of the summer. Luckily our ceremony was later in the evening so we managed to beat the heat.

What was the total guest count? Why did you pick the number of guests you did? Was it hard to get to that number? The total guest count in attendance ended up being 144. We wanted to have a smaller wedding and it was hard to keep the numbers down.

Besides the “getting married” part, what was the most vivid memory of your wedding day? (Bride’s perspective)  My most vivid memory of the day was our first look. As I came down the stairs and tapped Mike on his shoulder and he slowly turned around to see me for the first time. I will never forget that moment when he saw me in my wedding gown for the first time.

What ended up being your favorite photo? It is too hard to pick just one favorite photo because there are SO many! A few of our favorites are the one of us in front of the castle with the horse and carriage and the amazing sky, the one with us in the middle of the street and the ones in the chair at Eli Cannons. With such talented photographers it is so hard to just name a few favorites!!

What was the most memorable part of your photography experience with Studio1923? (From engagement all the way till now) Our whole experience with Studio1923 was amazing from the day we met up till now. The skills that Amanda and Jerome have are so unique. They helped with everything all day on our wedding, from getting the wedding party in line and organized to fixing my veil each time it fell out during pictures. Their personalities are great and they made our pictures fun. Amanda and Jerome knew just which locations to go to in order to get picture perfect photos. They truly go above and beyond to capture every moment.

What do you remember most about the Ceremony? Our whole ceremony was so memorable and personalized for us. Our Reverend really took the time to get to know us and put in a lot of effort to make it unique. The ceremony began with string instruments playing as guests were seated and the wedding party walked down the aisle. It was a surprise to all guests when a horse and carriage came riding around the castle carrying my father and me. The expression on the guests faces was priceless. The aisle was lined with rose petals, the arbor at the end of the aisle was decorated in beautiful purple and white flowers as were the pedestal flower arrangements. The scenery was picture perfect, overlooking the Connecticut River and having the Castle in the background was gorgeous. After the ceremony we were whisked away in our horse and carriage. I felt like our ceremony was straight out of a fairy tale.

Besides the “getting married ” part, what was the most vivid memory of the day? (Groom’s perspective My most vivid memory of the day was when the horse and carriage came around the castle with Kellie and hearing everyone’s reaction while I watched her come down the aisle.

Any advice to offer new brides and grooms to-be? Take the time to relax and have fun! Make sure you take the time to eat your meal also!

What made your reception personalized to your own unique vision and expectations? Saint Clements Castle has beautiful grounds both inside and out. The first time we went to see it, we knew we had to have our wedding there. The ballroom had beautiful chandeliers, windows that looked out over the Connecticut River and the gardens. Everything about Saint Clements Castle was perfect to us. The floral arrangements we picked were just enough to complete the tables. We had all of the bridesmaid bouquets put in vases around the room to add more personalization. Our wedding cake was baked by one of our best friends! This meant so much to us that she created such an elegant and delicious cake for us! She also put together a candy bar featuring all of our favorite candies! (Brides must have candy were ring pops and grooms must have candy were candy cigarettes!) We displayed digital picture frames consisting of pictures of us throughout our relationship as well as a personalized scrapbook created by the matron of honor.

Our wedding song – You Had me from Hello

Kellie and Mike

What was the funniest thing that your remember happening? The funniest thing that happened would be the best man accidentally referring to Kellie as a guy during his speech. In the middle of his speech he said, “From the moment I met you I knew you were the guy” and everyone started laughing. He quickly fixed it and said, ” From the moment I met you I knew you were the one for my brother”.

What regrets, (if any) do you have about the planning of your wedding and your decisions leading up to the day? The only regret we have is that our DJ used “laser lights” that ended up making people look like that had colored dots all over them. We wish that we did not have them and only realized they were there when we started to see pictures.
