A peak into Meghan and Sal’s Real Wedding Story held at Candlewood Inn in Brookfield, Connecticut. They describe their wedding day firsthand from our interview.
When was your wedding? 6/7/2013
What made you choose your wedding date? We both wanted a spring wedding… and we also loved that 6+7=13
What was the weather like, and was it what you hoped for? How did it impact your day? We had planned for an outdoor wedding, so we had imagined and hoped for a beautiful sunny day. There turned out to be a tropical storm that week so it poured the days leading to/day of our wedding. That morning, weather ended up being the furthest thing from our minds because it was our wedding day and we knew it would be perfect no matter what. When I walked inside and saw all of our decorations and flowers set up, it was better than I could have imagined. It actually made the whole day more intimate and personal since our guests were close enough to hear our vows. We wouldn’t have had it any other way!
Besides the “getting married” part, what was the most vivid memory of your wedding day? (bride’s perspective) It’s hard to pick just one thing- I loved every minute! One of the most memorable parts of the day was when I received a letter from Sal while I was getting ready. It was so beautiful, I just couldn’t wait to meet him at the end of the aisle. It reminded me how perfect the day and the rest of our lives would be.
Who did your hair and makeup? Dana Bartone and Company
Who was the florist? Lori Robinson- Robinson Originals
The wedding dress was by Watters Bridal from Mariella’s Creations, Brides’s shoes where by Ivanka Trump, the suits were from Formals by Antonio, Groom’s shoes were from Cole Haan and the tie’s were from J.Crew.
What made your reception personalized to your own unique vision and expectations? We had done a LOT of DIY decorations that really just made the whole day so “us”. Our family and close friends played a huge part in getting all of those details together which made it extra special.
Besides the “getting married ” part, what was the most vivid memory of the day? (groom’s perspective) When Meg started coming down the aisle, I had to stand on my tiptoes because I wanted to see her so badly. My calf actually cramped up. The cigars were pretty great too.
Who was the Officiant? Dan Brookshire
What was the total guest count? Why did you pick the number of guests you did? Was it hard to get to that number? There ended up being 130 guests at our wedding. We had invited about 160. That list was our family, close friends, and close friends of our parents. It wasn’t difficult to come to that number.
Where did you have your ceremony and reception? Candlewood Inn in Brookfield, Connecticut. They did an amazing job in giving us a day that far exceeded our expectations.
What do you remember most about the Ceremony? We had both written our own vows so it was really special to say them to each other in front of our friends and family.
What part of the day do you want to do again and why? All of it! We really can’t pinpoint one thing; we had a blast the whole day. Sal wishes he danced a little more, Meg wishes she ate more food, but other than that, it was the perfect day.
What was the funniest thing that your remember happening? We had some pretty great dancers that kept us laughing all night. Sal would say his funniest moment (in retrospect) was when he thought he didn’t buy enough ties and raced half way to the mall only to realize he had given one of the ties to his dad already.
Who was the entertainment? Mike Connolly-DJ
What was the most memorable part of your photography experience with Studio1923? (From engagement all the way till now) We had an excellent experience with Studio1923 but I think our favorite part was following our ceremony when we went outside to take pictures in the rain. It felt so intimate and it was amazing to see the beautiful results of what seemed to be a crummy day outside.
What ended up being your favorite photo? The shot of us with the rain as a backdrop. It captured the beauty of the whole day and made the rain magical- not a bummer!
Any advice to offer new brides and grooms to-be? Don’t stress about the small stuff- the day will be perfect no matter what. As my mom told me through the whole process: “You could get married in a dump, it doesn’t matter, it’s about you and the love of your life.”
Where did you take your honeymoon? And how did you like it? We went to Couples Tower Isle in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It was an all-inclusive resort that was so beautiful. We relaxed, went on fun excursions, ate delicious food, and had a blast all week-long. Definitely would recommend it to others!
