I got this great question this morning and thought it would be worth blogging about.
I’ve done this once and it was successful. (Maybe I was lucky?)
Freezing the photos for about 20 minutes, then CAREFULLY with a butter knife; try to pull them apart. If after 30 seconds, you have no success. STOP! Put them back in the freezer for 20 more minutes. Repeat the process if you think you can go all the way with the process.
Here’s the catch 22… if you aren’t successful, your photos now have frozen with potential moisture frozen onto them. If you take them out and they are to thaw; they can become even more stuck as the moisture thaws the prints together.
The techniques to safely removing two stuck photos is very vague. Do some “Google-ing”.
Other techniques you can find online have to do with soaking them in water, and heating with hairdryers…. All of which are much more risky than freezing; but all of the techniques are risky anyway. After all, the photo is priceless, and one of a kind.
